The National Fur and Leather Garment Industry Joint Conference and the 2025 Annual Meeting of Related Special Committees were held in Shanghai. The conference, hosted by the China Leather Association and organized by its Fur, Leather Clothing, and Fur Economic Animal Breeding Specialized Committee, was held with the theme of "Gathering Momentum and Energy, Forging Ahead to Innovation." Approximately 100 people attended the conference, including government representatives from industrial bases, relevant enterprises, business associations, scientific research and testing institutions, and media.
In his speech, the head of the industry association pointed out that, at the intersection of the 14th Five-Year Plan and the beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan, the industry needs to "gather momentum and energy, forging ahead to innovation." He proposed three major development paths: focusing on new consumption and driving high-end and differentiated development based on the needs of different groups; developing new manufacturing and building a flexible customization and carbon footprint traceability system; and developing a new ecosystem and strengthening collaboration and cross-sector integration across the entire industry chain. Other speakers mentioned the need for the fur industry to innovate in design and deepen sustainable concepts, while the leather garment industry should integrate traditional Chinese elements and embrace smart technology and green processes.
Several industry reports were released at the conference, analyzing the current state of the fur farming, fur products, and leather apparel industries. The reports highlighted challenges facing the industry, including export pressure and insufficient demand, as well as opportunities arising from trade restructuring and new consumer demands. The reports recommended promoting transformation through technological innovation and fostering specialized, specialized, and innovative enterprises. Online sales data was also released, showing declining sales in some categories but increasing sales revenue.
International industry representatives shared global trends, noting that some regions are facing fur farming and trade bans, the shrinking scale of international fur farming, and depressed prices. They also discussed the use of fur by luxury brands and the development strategies of related companies.
A summit forum on the same theme was held concurrently with the conference, where participants exchanged views on industry trends, enterprise transformation paths, development challenges, and response strategies. Participants expressed their belief that the conference, with its pragmatic content and diverse perspectives, charted a path for industry development and strengthened confidence in collaboration.
